Woolenwick Junior School was opened in 1974 and is situated in the Symonds Green area of Stevenage. We are able to accommodate 240 children in 8 classes and have 9 full time teachers including the Head Teacher and 2 part time teachers as well as a team of experienced Teaching Assistants to support them.
There are 2 mixed ability classes per year group with both classes working closely with each other and where possible near each other in the building. We take pride in the organisation and appearance of our classrooms and aim that the rooms themselves should reflect, reward and stimulate learning with quality displays, clear labelling and easy access to the tools of learning.
The classes are arranged around the central dining area and library and we have a large hall that is used for assemblies, PE lessons, music, drama and other curricular activities. We also have a dedicated ICT Suite with 30 computers. All the children have the opportunity both to be taught computer skills and to extend their learning in other subjects through the use of programs and the Internet. We have a Learning Resources Area at the heart of the school where children can develop their research skills using either the well stocked library or the mini computer suite.
Around the school in addition to the playing field, there are two playgrounds, play equipment, a small seating area and a range of woodland, hedgerow and wetland for environmental studies.
We also have very strong links with both Woolenwick Infant and Nursery School http://www.woolenwickinfants.herts.sch.uk/ and Bridge Road Children Centre http://www.hertschildrenscentres.org.uk/bridgeroad/ who are in separate buildings adjacent to the Junior School. Woodlands Nursery also shares the Woolenwick Campus.
